For Media Representatives covering Apostolic visit of Pope Francis

Apostolic journey of Pope Francis to Cyprus 2 – 4/12/21



Media representatives, who will be covering the Apostolic journey of Pope Francis to Cyprus, on 2-4 December 2021, are informed about the following:



GENERAL INFORMATION:


Ø Safe pass — At all points of the visit, as well as at the Press Centre (PC), a safe pass possession will be checked.

Ø Collection of accreditation badges:

From the PIO: Tuesday 30/11/21 and Wednesday 1/12/21 from

08:00 to 14:00.

From the Press Centre (Hilton): Wednesday 1/12/21 from 15:00 to

20:00 and Thursday 2/12/21, from 07:30.

Ø All Media Representatives should carry the special accreditation card issued by the PIO (PRESS — Pope FRANCIS’ VISIT TO CYPRUS, 2-4.12.2021) in order to be able to access the various events.

Ø The official photographer of all events is the PIO and the host broadcaster will be the CyBC. The photographic material will be available free of charge for a period of 30 days from the PIO (https://www.pio.gov.cy/gallery.html)

Ø Media Representatives are kindly requested to be present at every event 1.5 to 2 hours earlier.

Ø At every event the equipment of photographers and cameramen will be checked by the Police.

Ø Representatives of the PIO will be present at all places Pope Francis will be visiting to facilitate media representatives and for better coordination.

Ø A PRESS CENTRE will be operating at Hilton Hotel on 2-3/12/21 from 07:30 to 21:00, where PIO representatives will be present to facilitate the media.


SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS:


Thursday 2.12.21

Larnaka Airport — Pope’s Arrival 15:00


The arrival will be covered only by the PIO official photographer and the CyBC. Access to other Media will not be allowed.


Maronite Cathedral of Our Lady of Grace (Maronites’), Lefkosia — Pope’s Arrival 16:00


The ceremony inside the temple will only be covered by the PIO official photographer and the CyBC. Efforts are being made for media representatives to be able to watch the event through large screens, from a close distance to the temple, in accordance with police instructions.



Presidential Palace/Official Ceremony — Pope’s Arrival 17:15


1. Arrival hours at the Presidential Palace:

15:00 – 15:30 Crews with technical equipment (cameramen, photographers).

15:30 – 16:00 Media representatives without equipment.


2. Crews with technical equipment can park their vehicles in the designated parking area of the Presidential Palace. Media representatives without equipment can park their vehicles at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Post Office.


3. A special space for media representatives will be created in the heliport area with screens that will display the events inside the Presidential Palace. Working stations and wifi connection will be available.


4. All media representatives can cover both the arrival and departure of Pope Francis at the Presidential Palace. A large platform will be set up in front of the guards’ office to facilitate, as a priority, photographers and cameramen.


5. The events inside the Presidential Palace will be covered only by the PIO official photographer and the CyBC.


Friday 3.12.21


Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus — Pope’s Arrival 08:30


1. Media representatives may park their vehicles in the underground parking area under Apostle Varnavas Cathedral, floor -2, Ippokratous Street.

2. All media representatives can cover the arrival and departure of the Pope from the courtyard of the Holy Archbishopric.

3. The activities inside the Holy Archbishopric will be covered only by the PIO official photographer and the CyBC.


Apostle Varnavas Cathedral — 09:00


1. Once Pope Francis enters the Holy Archbishopric, media representatives accompanied by PIO representatives will move to Apostle Varnavas Cathedral.

2. The event inside the temple will only be covered by the PIO official photographer and the CyBC.

3. All media representatives can cover the ceremony from the Cathedral terrace, accompanied by the PIO officers.

4. Media representatives wishing to go from the Holy Archbishopric to GSP stadium to cover the Holy Mass should gather before the end of the event at the temple, at the departure point of the bus, on the road in front of the Archbishopric entrance.

5. The bus, accompanied by a police vehicle, will depart for the GSP and at the end of the Holy Mass will return to the Holy Archbishopric.


GSP Stadium: Holy Mass/Speech by Pope Francis — Pope’s Arrival 10:00


1. Media representatives can park their vehicles in the south parking area of the GSP.

2. Access to the stadium for Media representatives, who will first undergo checks through a rapid control arch, will be conducted from the southwest entrance D2 A.

3. Media representatives are kindly requested to follow the instructions of the Police, the security officers’ and the PIO officers’ instructions.

4. The Media representatives will gather in the upper level, Section 404, across the podium on which the Pope will be standing and will not be allowed to move around before the ceremony ends. The venue will offer free wifi connection and electrical power supply.

5. The island-wide tv channels will be gathered, accompanied by PIO officers, at a specific area on the field, across the podium on which the Pope will be standing.

6. The ceremony of the Holy Mass from various points of the stadium will only be covered by the PIO official photographer and the CyBC.


Catholic Church of the Holy Cross/Pafos Gate — Pope’s Arrival 16:00


The Ecumenical prayer with immigrants inside the temple will be covered only by the PIO official photographer and the CyBC. Efforts are being made for media representatives to be able to watch the event through large screens, from a close distance to the temple, in accordance with police instructions.

Saturday, 4.12.21


Larnaka Airport — Pope’s Departure 09:10

The farewell ceremony will only be covered by the PIO official photographer and the CyBC.
